Regular-season game: 'Knights spoil the party again (3 July 2013)

Season II, week 6: silentsound's Silentknights 28, MoRe's Moles 14 (Final)

They did it again - silentsound's Silentknights (2-4) are about to gain a notorious reputation of being playoff-party poopers in the Gothic Division after scoring 28 unanswered points en route to a 28-14 win over division rivals MoRe's Moles (3-3).

The 'Knights have prevented division rivals from making the playoffs for the second time in as many regular-season finales. Last season, frontmodes Kobras had fallen victim to the 'Knights ambition to close their season with a win.

The Moles have failed to make the playoffs after starting 2-0 for the second time in as many seasons even though they appeared well on their way to keep their postseason hopes alive storming ahead 14-0 early in the third quarter.

Their RB had opened the score on a 19-yd home run early in the second quarter before adding a 10-Yarder to double the Moles' lead.

The Moles' RBs had 15 carries for 121 yds to their names when scoring their second TD but for the rest of the game, they actually lost 3 yds on nine carries. While the 'Knights took over and scored on five of their seven second-half possessions, the Moles never got another new first down.

The 'Knights opened their account with a 39-yd FG set up by a 50-yd completion on their first play-from-scrimmage of the second half. After forcing a three-and-out, the 'Knights came within a FG finishing an 8-play, 62-yd drive with a 6-yd TD run plus running in the two-point conversion.

Early in the fourth quarter, the 'Knights took the lead on an 8-yd TD pass to cap a 9-play, 60-yd drive. The TD was set up by a 25-yd run to the 2-yd line before their QB found a receiver in the end zone on 3rd-and-goal.

The 'Knights' QB finished the game with 15-of-18 for 166 yds. He had a franchise-record completion rate of 83.3 and a stellar rating of 123.6.

Their RBs had a franchise-record 53 carries for 240 yds and 2 TDs. They also had seven fumbles of which they only lost the first one. The inability to recover fumbles proved crucial for the Moles' defenders as they had three chances to stop the 'Knights during their first two TD drives.

Instead, the 'Knights' defenders forced and recovered a fumble on the first play of the Moles' ensuing possession setting up the 'Knights' third TD, a 4-yd run to give the 'Knights a 25-14 lead with 8:24 left to play. Their kicker put the lid on the scoreline with a 27-yd FG with a little more than a minute remaining.

Like last season, the Moles will be invited to represent the Gothic Division in the All-Star Game. Profiteers of the Moles' loss were duffeldoffel's Reds, zugschefz dieselz and the Dicey Beasts who clinched their playoff spots before finishing their own regular-season finales.
