Recap

'Knights shock dieselz

silentsound's Silentknights (2-1) caused the first major upset of the season with a 31-27 road win over zugschefz dieselz (2-1).

The dieselz seemed to have the affair entirely under control as their offense almost doubled the opponents' total offense but they never managed to run away with the score. The dieselz scored TDs with their first two possessions with a 'Knights' FG in between. But whenever the dieselz extended their lead to 10 points, the 'Knights somehow struck back with a TD on their ensuing possessions.

Late in the first half, the 'Knights had a great opportunity to even take the lead when a penalty during a FG attempt that would have tied the game gave them a 1st-and-Goal at the 8-yd line. Four plays later, another penalty during a FG attempt gave them a new set of downs at the 4 but again, the dieselz defense stood tall. On 4th-and-Goal, the 'Knights kicker missed a 21-yd field goal.

After this momentum killer, the dieselz seemed to have the opposition under firm control. With less than nine minutes left to play, they extended their lead to 10 points for a third time but the 'Knights replied immediately with their third kickoff-return TD in as many games.

The 'Knights then forced a three-and-out but soon faced a 4th-and-13 from their own 48 with 3:48 minutes left to play. Their QB went deep and the pass fell incomplete but a 45-yd pass-interference call gave them a 1st-and-Goal from the 7-yd line. Two plays later, the 'Knights QB found a receiver in the end zone for the go-ahead score.

For their own comeback bid, the dieselz had three minutes and two timeouts to work with. Because of a penalty during the kickoff return, they had to start from their own 8 but with two completions, they reached midfield before the two-minute warning. A sack on 3rd-and-9 and a run for loss on fourth down sealed the 'Knights' victory.
